The Senior Communications Officer will coordinate and support the branch, region and key partner agencies prior to, during and after a disaster event activation by designing, initiating and delivering a broad range of communication products, strategies and projects that support the delivery of Community Recovery services.

They will also work closely with the department’s central Media and Communication function to ensure consistent communication approaches and access specialist support.

As a Senior Communications Officer, you will:

• Provide expert advice to the Director on targeted communications strategies that are aligned to strategic objectives and priorities by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the Community Recovery projects activities and proactively identify trends and risks in communication issues that may affect the branch.
• Develop and implement communication activities, project related communication activities, initiatives, social media strategies, including targeted activities to support the recruitment and retention of Queensland Government Ready Reserves to enable a positive work environment and culture.
• Write and edit a wide range of material including media releases, speeches, feature articles, factsheets, flyers, corporate publications and web content, whilst ensuring communication activity is best practice in terms of communication with people with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
• Work closely with the department's central Media and Communication function to align Community Recovery communication strategies with Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety broader communication approach and facilitate access to whole of department communication channels.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead the implementation and achievement of the branch's strategic communications objectives.
• Develop, implement and monitor comprehensive project management plans, programs and budgetary arrangements for Community Recovery communications projects. This includes ensuring all activities align with Queensland Government processes, guidelines, and standards, particularly in relation to promotions and corporate identity.
• Collaborate with Strategic Communication and Media (SCM) to ensure compliance and consistency. Responsibilities may also include managing the performance of external suppliers to deliver high-quality communication products and services, such as research, advertising, graphic design, video production, print, and call centre services.
• During an activated event, assume the role of Team Leader for Community Recovery Communications, leading a team of staff to provide support to the region, branch, and key stakeholders in accordance with the Incident Management Team role profile.
• Provide support to the Director, Strategy and Engagement as required.

Your mandatory requirements

There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, medium to advanced skills in the use of the following platforms, applications and software would be highly regarded:
