As a Senior Adviser, you will provide expert advice and support on complex sentence management matters to ensure lawful detention, consistent administration and effective management of prisoners’ sentences across Queensland Corrective Services.

You will undertake complex analysis, coordinate governance activities, identify and manage operational risks, provide secretariat support to key governance committees, and contribute to operational decision-making and the continuous improvement of sentence management practices, systems and processes.

You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide evidence-based advice, support governance and quality assurance activities, and contribute to the delivery of consistent, contemporary and legally compliant sentence management services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialist advice and recommendations on placement, classification, legislative interpretation and alignment to COPD.
• Research, analyse and assess prisoner information, intelligence, legislation, policy and operational data to support informed decision-making.
• Prepare high quality reports, executive briefings, correspondence and recommendations for management and key stakeholders.
• Prepare high quality correspondence for internal and external stakeholders.
• Analyse operational and performance information to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities to improve service delivery, governance and operational outcomes.
• Identify, assess and escalate operational and legislative risks, providing practical recommendations to support effective risk management and informed decision-making.
• Interpret and apply legislation, policy, procedures and delegated authorities to support lawful, consistent and evidence-based decision-making.
• Review complex prisoner matters and provide recommendations relating to prisoner classification, placement, transfer, sentence administration and other sentence management functions.
• Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of sentence management policies, procedures, systems and business processes.
• Support governance, quality assurance and compliance activities to promote consistency, accountability and best practice across Sentence Management Services.
• Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, negotiating outcomes on complex, sensitive and high-risk matters.
• Provide subject matter expertise and professional guidance to colleagues and stakeholders on sentence management legislation, policy and operational practice.
• Contribute to a collaborative, professional and continuous improvement culture that supports the delivery of high-quality statewide sentence management services.
• Coordinate and provide secretariat support for the Discharge Review and Oversight Committee (DROC) and other governance forums, including preparing meeting papers, recording decisions, monitoring actions and supporting the timely implementation of committee outcomes.
• Identify, assess and communicate operational, legislative and organisational risks associated with sentence management activities, providing evidence-based recommendations and escalating issues where appropriate to support informed decision-making and effective risk management.
