Senior Advisor (RTI)

Are you an experienced decision-maker with strong legislative interpretation skills and a passion for transparency, accountability and stakeholder engagement?

As a Senior Advisor (RTI), you will play a key role in ensuring the department meets its obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009 and Information Privacy Act 2009. You'll lead the management of complex and sensitive RTI applications, provide authoritative advice to stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen information access practices across TMR.

Working within a supportive and high-performing team, you'll also provide coaching and mentoring to colleagues, develop training resources and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Office of the Information Commissioner.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is seeking a highly capable Senior Advisor (RTI) to join our RTI, Privacy and Complaints Management unit. This is an exciting opportunity to manage complex and sensitive Right to Information (RTI) matters, exercise legislative delegations, and influence information access practices across one of Queensland's largest government departments.

What you'll be doing:
• Exercising delegated decision-making authority on complex and sensitive RTI applications.
• Interpreting and applying legislation to provide practical, risk-based advice.
• Preparing high-quality decision notices, reports, briefs and submissions.
• Developing and delivering training and guidance materials to build organisational capability.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to policy and process development.
• Building productive stakeholder relationships to facilitate the effective management of RTI matters.

What we're looking for:
• Experience exercising legislative decision-making functions, particularly in complex or sensitive matters. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply legislation. 
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory timeframes. 
• Highly developed written communication skills, including the preparation of formal correspondence and decision documents. 
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence, educate and collaborate effectively. 
• Experience developing and delivering training, coaching or capability-building initiatives.
