The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is at the forefront of driving sustainable growth across Queensland. The position focuses on the alignment and integration of disaster management, counter-terrorism and business continuity arrangements across the department. It also leads stakeholder engagement and capability-building activities to support coordinated and effective emergency responses, while fostering strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. You will lead the coordination of the DLGWV Community Recovery Ready Reserves.
Key Accountabilities:
• Providing strategic leadership and direction to the Emergency Management Unit (EMU) to facilitate the development of a fit-for-purpose disaster management framework that supports the organisation to deliver on its roles and responsibilities.
• Develop DLGWV's Emergency Management Framework to deliver robust and sustainable outcomes.
• Represent the department at State Disaster Coordination Centre during emergency events to provide authoritative advice to the SDCG, the Minister and the Director-General on matters in the DLGWV portfolio that are critical to support the Government's response to emergency situations.
• Foster and maintain strong relationships with other Queensland Government departments, Government owned corporations and DLGWV internal and external stakeholders regarding policies, procedures and issues relating to emergency and disaster management arrangements.
• Lead and manage the DLGWV disaster management team in response activities at the State Disaster Coordination Centre.
• Identify an appropriate Emergency management structure/membership and ensure members are competent and capable to respond when activated.
• Represent the Department on committees and working groups, build and maintain strong linkages with relevant areas across the organisation to ensure interoperability between divisions to affect a unified response.
About You:
• There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, it would be preferable for the applicant to have experience and a qualification in Safety and/or emergency/disaster management, with a particular focus on business continuity and risk mitigation.
