Why this role is different
This isn't a role confined to a single port, vessel, region or operational team. You'll have oversight of a diverse fleet operating across Queensland and be involved in everything from vessel acquisition and lifecycle planning through to maintenance, certification, regulatory compliance and operational safety.

You'll help shape fleet strategy, guide investment decisions, drive consistency across the state and work with specialists and operational teams to ensure vessels remain fit for purpose and operationally ready.

What you'll be doing
You'll act as the central point of expertise for fleet management within Maritime Safety Queensland, leading initiatives that support:
• fleet planning and lifecycle management
• vessel safety, certification and compliance
• maintenance and asset management programs
• procurement, renewal and disposal activities
• state-wide operational standards and procedures
• stakeholder engagement with regulators, suppliers and regional operations

This is a role that combines technical maritime knowledge with leadership, problemsolving and strategic thinking.

Who we're looking for
You might currently be working in:
• maritime operations
• marine surveying
• vessel management
• commercial fleet management
• marine engineering
• government or regulatory maritime environments
• defence, port, offshore or commercial marine sectors

Most importantly, you'll bring strong knowledge of vessel operations and fleet management, sound judgement, an ability to work across multiple stakeholders, and a genuine commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

What we offer
• Permanent full-time opportunity with a special condition*
• Flexible location within Queensland
• AO7 salary plus superannuation and leave loading
• Flexible work arrangements
• Meaningful work that directly contributes to maritime safety outcomes
• Opportunities to influence state-wide operations and strategy
• A supportive and collaborative leadership team

If you're looking for an opportunity to apply your maritime expertise in a role with genuine state-wide influence and purpose, we'd love to hear from you. For questions regarding the position, please contact Kris Chant, a/Executive Director (Waterways Management) on 0477 324 786.

*Special condition: Due to administrative constraints, the position will be temporary throughout 2027. Upon job offer, the successful candidate will receive both a temporary and a permanent letter of confirmation, with a permanent start date of 6 January 2028.

Applications will remain current for 12 months.
