The Research, Evaluation, Data Insights and Analysis Group supports QCS in ensuring its programs, initiatives and operations are informed by the latest evidence and research. It is tasked with working with senior academics and researchers, conducting its own internal research and evaluation projects, developing prisoner forecasts and analysing prisoner and offender trends. Through such work, it is committed to supporting QCS in building an evidence-informed approach to policy and practice in delivery rehabilitative interventions aimed at reducing reoffending and enhancing community safety.

The Senior Research and Evaluation Officer plays a critical role in implementing and overseeing external research and evaluation activities and governance processes, and undertaking research and evaluation projects associated with corrective services, including those investigating rehabilitation outcomes and community safety initiatives to target and disrupt crime and reduce victimisation.

The primary accountabilities of the Senior Research & Evaluation Officer include:

  • Design, implement and deliver strategic research and evaluation activities, including literature reviews, relating to correctional practice from inception through to dissemination of findings.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative methods to research and evaluation projects, including data collection, analysis and interpretation.
  • Contribute to the development of research and evaluation plans, frameworks and other deliverables to inform correctional policy and practice.
  • Implement and supervise high volume governance processes for the QCS Research and Evaluation Committee and resolve emerging and complex risks or issues as projects progress.
  • Liaise with senior academics, external researchers and internal QCS staff to build and maintain high quality productive stakeholder relationships in the delivery of research and evaluation projects.
  • Communicate research and evaluation findings effectively and clearly to internal and external stakeholders including senior leaders, through reports, summaries and presentations.
  • Provide advice to the Director Research, Evaluation, Data Insights and Analysis Group, on correctional related research and evaluation activities and findings.
  • Ensure ethical, high quality research practices in internal projects and in assessing external research proposals.
  • Manage competing tasks and priorities across the core functions of the Research and Evaluation team related to research and evaluation projects and governance processes, to achieve results in a dynamic environment.
  • Contribute to the development of the agency's forward planning process, budget proposals and submissions as required, including contributions from latest research.
