In this role you will work within a multidisciplinary team and provide high quality, culturally appropriate, child protection services to children, families and carers serviced by the Child Safety Service Centre. You will also support colleagues and management in the delivery of statutory child protection services within a strengths based, safety oriented framework for practice.

Your responsibilities 

As a Senior Child Safety Officer you will:

  • Effectively and positively engage with children, families, carers and service providers (including both government and non-government agencies) as required to support children and parents to meet their identified case plan goals.
  • Provide individualised, high quality, and culturally appropriate supports to children and families subject to tertiary child protection intervention including, but not limited to; facilitation of positive family connection, referrals and advocacy for services, parent coaching and support of transition from care plans.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, children and parents to support the establishment and strengthening of effective safety and support networks, including connection to extended family and community.
  • Provide high quality, comprehensive casework support and advice to assist in informing decisions about the safety and protective needs of children where complex child protection concerns are present.
  • Participate effectively as a team member in a multidisciplinary team to deliver well-planned family support services to vulnerable children and families.
  • Actively contribute to a culture of continuous learning, training and professional development, to ensure practice knowledge and skills are contemporary and evidence-based.
  • Prepare and maintain quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements.
  • Provide project and administrative support to individual teams and the Child Safety Service Centre (CSSC), contributing to the delivery of local initiatives, business improvement activities and operational priorities as arranged with the Manager.

Your mandatory requirements

  • Possession of or able to obtain a blue card administered by the public safety business
  • Possession of a “C” class drivers licence

  • Communicates with influence - You identify relevant stakeholders, seek to understand varying stakeholder needs and tailor your communication style and message accordingly, both orally and in writing.
  • Technical/Role Specific - You are able to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and have the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols. You know about and understand the issues that impact on both cultures in contemporary society.
