Key Details:
- There is 1 x Permanent Full time position.
- This process will be used to fill any other Permanent or Temporary positions that arise in the next 12 months.
- The Grants Division has staff located in Brisbane and some Regional offices. An Appointment to one of the regional locations may be considered for the right applicant.
The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:
- Supervise a de-centralised team of grants officers and/or other staff. Regularly communicate with the team, complete achievement and development plans, monitor and provide feedback, coach and mentor, coordinate work and leave, participate in recruitment, and support safety and wellbeing.
- Supervise grants activities performed by your team including making timely and sound administrative decisions about a client's representation across all areas of law, processing payments and compliance, administration and review.
- Lead, monitor and report on the team's operational performance and compliance.
- Manage complex and high-risk matters, assess primary decisions or claims for payment, and articulate reasons for refusing, terminating or affirming decisions or claims.
- Help investigate and resolve complaints between clients and external legal practitioners.
- Communicate with clients and legal practitioners by telephone, in writing and face-to-face about sensitive or complex grants matters.
- Prepare submissions about requests for aid to senior officers and review the submissions of team members.
- Review grant's funding decisions, confirm or overturn the primary decision, document and communicate the decision.
- Provide advice and information to external legal practitioners about Legal Aid Queensland systems and processes.
- Participate in service improvement initiatives and project activities as required.

About You:
- You have knowledge of legal practices, procedures and terminology gained through experience in a legal environment. You can apply Grants policy, handbook and procedures to complex matters.
- You have experience in supervising a team and support team collaboration. You are flexible and adaptable across a broad range of grants functions and can plan ahead and monitor task progress to meet deadlines.
- You communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner, can offer convincing rationale, negotiate persuasively and provide courteous, prompt and professional service to stakeholders and clients with complex needs.
