Team Leader - Victim Services


Victim Services Coordination Unit; Victim Assist Queensland; Victim Support; Cairns

As Team Leader, Victim Services, you will support the Victim Services Coordinator in delivering functions under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, timely and victim-focused services, while supporting service providers who work closely with victims of crime. You will also provide advice on policy issues and programs relating to victim services in Queensland, and coordinate, develop and review service responses that strengthen support for victims of crime.

As Regional Practice Lead, you will drive best practice, support staff wellbeing, lead training and development, and build effective relationships with stakeholders in North Queensland.

Key responsibilities

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Leads a multi-disciplinary team to achieve desired operational outcomes, using sound judgment and initiating and directing remedial action as required.
• Provide authoritative analysis and advice on complex operational process and policy issues relating to regional and remote service delivery in accordance with the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
• Provide leadership and coordination to assist in identifying and responding to gaps in services and coordination between government and non-government agencies, including a focus on the delivery of services state-wide to Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islanders victims.
• Build and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including other departmental business units and the non-government sector, to create opportunities and improvements ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of Victim Assist services.
• Lead and motivates an organisational culture that values a trauma-informed approach, internal and inter-agency collaboration, innovative performance and positive contributions that staff bring to Victim Assist and clients.
• Develop and implement a framework to support regional staff, driving initiatives that prioritise staff wellbeing, foster effective communication and strengthen connection across the regions.
• Undertake Financial, Human Resource and Performance management activities including establishment management, workforce and succession planning, coaching, mentoring and staff supervision.
