Make your expertise count where it matters
We're looking for an experienced Senior Cultural Heritage Officer to join our Southern Queensland Region team, based in Gympie.

This is a diverse role for someone who can bring together specialist cultural heritage knowledge, strong relationships and practical advice to support the delivery of road and infrastructure projects. You'll provide guidance and expertise across both Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural heritage, helping project teams identify and manage cultural heritage significance and operational risks while meeting relevant state and federal legislative requirements.

A particularly important part of the role is building and strengthening relationships between T MR and registered Aboriginal parties. You'll work closely with Traditional Owner groups, project teams and other stakeholders to support respectful, practical and effective cultural heritage management across infrastructure planning, design, construction and maintenance.

 What you'll be doing
Your work will be varied and could see you:
- providing senior cultural heritage advice across multiple project delivery teams and QTRIP projects
- developing and maintaining effective relationships with Traditional Owner groups and internal and external stakeholders
- conducting cultural heritage assessments, field surveys, studies, monitoring, project inspections and audits
- preparing cultural heritage reports, management plans and agreements
- advising stakeholders on relevant legislation, policy, procedures and cultural heritage requirements
- identifying cultural heritage risks and working with project teams to manage them
- negotiating and facilitating cultural heritage agreements with Traditional Owner groups
- managing specialist cultural heritage consultants, including developing briefs and supporting procurement
- developing systems, procedures, engagement approaches and training to improve cultural heritage management
- providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to other cultural heritage officers and departmental staff.

What you'll bring
We're looking for someone with strong cultural heritage knowledge who can translate that expertise into clear, practical advice. You'll be comfortable working collaboratively with project teams and line managers, thinking critically about complex issues and building sustainable relationships focused on achieving effective outcomes.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills will be important, together with the ability to conduct cultural heritage assessments and field surveys and apply relevant cultural heritage knowledge to considered and ethical decision-making.

Mandatory requirements
You must hold:
- a Bachelor degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Social Science, Heritage Management, Heritage Conservation or a related discipline
- a current Class C driver licence.

Experience applying Queensland cultural heritage legislation and/or experience in linear or transport infrastructure is desirable. Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Australian Anthropological Society, Australian Archaeological Association or ICOMOS is also desirable.

The role involves cultural heritage field surveys which may require walking long distances in varying weather conditions, including hot and humid conditions.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
