Chemist (PO3) - Chemistry Centre

Are you looking to build your career in analytical chemistry while contributing to projects that support Queensland's environment, agriculture and natural resource management?

The Chemistry Centre, part of Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, is seeking a motivated and capable Chemist to join our team at the Ecosciences Precinct in Dutton Park. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work with experienced scientists and advanced analytical technologies to deliver high-quality scientific services that support government research, monitoring and decision-making programs.

The Chemistry Centre provides accredited analytical services for water, soil, sediment and plant samples and is recognised for its expertise in analytical chemistry, water chemistry, soil chemistry, sediment geochemistry and environmental tracing. Our work supports research and monitoring programs that improve understanding of Queensland's environment and natural resource systems and provides the evidence needed for effective policy and management decisions.

As a Chemist, you will be part of a highly skilled team responsible for delivering scientifically defensible data and analytical results. You will conduct chemical analyses of water, soil, plant and sediment samples, prepare samples for analysis, and operate sophisticated analytical instrumentation including ICP-MS, ICP-OES, ion chromatographs, LECO carbon analysers and segmented flow auto-analysers.

You will also contribute to the development, evaluation and documentation of analytical methods, ensuring services continue to meet evolving scientific and customer needs. Working under the guidance of senior scientists, you will assist with data analysis, interpretation of results, preparation of reports and scientific publications, and contribute to solving complex environmental and agricultural challenges.

A strong focus on quality and safety is central to this role. You will work within NATAaccredited quality systems, follow established laboratory procedures, and contribute to maintaining a safe, efficient and high-performing laboratory environment.

We are seeking a proactive and collaborative individual with qualifications in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or an equivalent discipline, and experience or knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques. You'll have strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively within a team to deliver quality outcomes. Experience operating analytical instrumentation, using laboratory information management systems, and working within laboratory quality systems will be highly regarded.

This position offers the opportunity to develop your technical expertise, work alongside leading scientists, and contribute to projects that deliver real benefits for Queensland's communities, industries and environment. If you enjoy applying science to solve practical problems and are looking for a rewarding role in a collaborative and innovative laboratory, we encourage you to apply.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
