About Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism.
The Department of Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism is responsible for fostering an environment that allows Queensland women to be economically secure. We work closely with other agencies, peak bodies, local leaders, and the community to lift the living standards of Aboriginal communities and Torres Strait Islander communities. We facilitate an environment where multicultural communities want to call Queensland home by harnessing their skill and expertise and celebrating the cultural diversity of our State.
About our team:
SPLWMA is a broad and fascinating area of work which leads policy and legislation across the Queensland Government for women and First Nations Queenslanders.
We support the Director-General and Minister on a diverse range of issues, including economic empowerment for women and Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, intergovernmental relations and development of programs and reforms that impact the lives of women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
We work closely with other areas of our department and with agencies at the state and national level to improve the lives, rights and wellbeing of women and girls in Queensland and to design and deliver policies, programs and services that achieve better life outcomes for First Nations Queenslanders and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Every day truly is different in Strategic Policy and Legislation - but every day, you will work alongside knowledgeable, experienced and passionate colleagues to provide timely and accurate policy advice, advocate for positive outcomes and deliver real change for Queenslanders.
Our workplace environment:
We value having a workforce that reflects the diverse views, experiences and backgrounds of the community we serve. We strongly encourage enquiries and applications from people with diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
We recognise that diversity of cultures and beliefs enriches everyone and provides a multiplicity of viewpoints representative of the communities we serve. We strive to cultivate a psychologically safe and high-performing team environment, one that operates collaboratively and values the collective views of others. We seek to harness group and individual strengths capitalising on the uniqueness of these strengths.
Your contribution and key responsibilities:
• Receive policy-focused mentorship as an entry-level public servant and learn about how public policy environments operate under the guidance of senior executives and policy professionals.
• Maintain diary appointments for executives including organisation of meetings, conferences, accommodation and travel arrangements.
• Coordinate incoming correspondence and assist in the timely preparation of Ministerial and Executive correspondence and other documentation relating to Cabinet and Parliamentary processes in accordance with Departmental standards.
• Format and proof-read correspondence and reports in accordance with the Departmental Style Guide and directives and coordinate, register, distribute and monitor progress of incoming correspondence, confidential Cabinet and other briefing material with the assigned unit manager to determine action and priorities.
• Contribute to the compilation, editing and processing of policy responses as well as executive, ministeria ministerial and other correspondence, briefing notes and questions on notice.
See role description for more details.
Cultural Referee:
While it is not a requirement for the role, an applicant may wish to nominate an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as a cultural referee to support their candidacy.
