Who we are:
Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is a Queensland Government agency that unlocks land and accelerates housing, planning and infrastructure delivery—creating liveable places and enabling economic growth. Our work helps deliver safe, secure and affordable homes and supports thriving communities across the state.

Empowered by the Economic Development Act 2012, EDQ has unique planning and approval powers to help unblock complex projects and bring development-ready land to market. Our purpose is simple: help Queenslanders find a place to call home, create more jobs closer to home, and support liveable communities that reflect Queensland's way of life.

We work across government and with industry to attract investment, enable jobs and deliver projects that make a measurable difference for Queenslanders.

About the Role
As Director, Engineering within Economic Development Queensland's (EDQ) Established Growth team, you will provide strategic leadership and technical oversight to support infrastructure and development outcomes across Priority Development Areas (PDAs).

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of engineers, providing strategic direction, technical guidance and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture.
  • Provide high-level engineering advice and oversight on complex infrastructure, planning and development matters, ensuring effective regulatory and compliance outcomes.
  • Act as a senior escalation point, providing practical, solutions-focused advice to resolve complex technical challenges and facilitate development outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with government agencies, developers, consultants and industry stakeholders to influence and support development delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering service delivery, governance frameworks and operational performance, ensuring alignment with EDQ's strategic objectives.

About You
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader who brings strong technical credibility, strategic thinking and a collaborative, solutions-focused leadership style.

  • Ideally, tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline, supported by demonstrated experience in complex infrastructure, development assessment or engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated experience within local government, ideally complemented by more recent engineering consultancy experience, bringing a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and commercial development priorities.
  • Proven experience in a senior technical advisory capacity, providing strategic engineering advice, influencing decisions and resolving complex infrastructure and development challenges.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to coach, mentor and develop engineering professionals while providing technical oversight and building team capability.
  • A strategic, solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to see the bigger picture, exercise sound judgement and deliver practical outcomes without becoming overly involved in technical detail.

Why Choose EDQ:
