- Independently investigate and determine complex defective building work complaints, identifying the key issues, evidence requirements and appropriate regulatory action for each matter.
- Critically assess external technical consultant reports and supporting evidence to determine whether building work is defective and whether the legislative criteria for regulatory action, including the issue of a Direction to Rectify, have been met.
- Resolve evidentiary and technical gaps involving conflicting opinions, incomplete reports, disputed facts or matters requiring further expert advice.
- Make delegated, evidence-based administrative decisions under the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 and associated QBCC policies, applying procedural fairness and natural justice and ensuring decisions are fair, reasonable and legally defensible.
