Arts Queensland (AQ), part of the Department of Education, is looking for a fixed-term temporary full-time AO7 Manager – Backing Indigenous Arts (BIA) (Identified) to work at our Cairns or Townsville offices for 9 months with possible extension.
As Manager - BIA, you will drive regional development priorities, broker productive partnerships and strengthen the network of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, artists and arts workers across Queensland through effective management of government funding and initiatives aligned to Creative Together.

In addition, it is a genuine occupational requirement for this position to be filled by an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person, as permitted by and arguable under, Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. The successful applicant will support First Nations-led policy development and investment strategy.
Key duties of this role include:
- Manage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and organisations who are recipients or seeking funding through Arts Queensland's programs, including providing support to enhance financial and non-financial reporting.
- Strengthen and support Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and arts organisations with a focus on sustainability, economic participation, and connection to culture through artistic practice.
- Maintain high level knowledge of Indigenous arts practice and emerging trends across the arts and cultural sector to support reform to the Queensland Government's Backing Indigenous Arts initiative.
- Develop and maintain close and effective working relationships with stakeholders across all levels of Government, community, and industry to contribute and drive sustainable partnerships.
- Support the Director in providing comprehensive advice to the Minister, Deputy Director-General, and senior management, including through preparation of Ministerial correspondence, detailed reports, briefs and submissions.
- Actively contribute and negotiate relevant issues when representing Arts Queensland on Government and industry committees and at key national and state-wide forums
- Demonstrate leadership through ability to work effectively in a complex and fast-paced environment while inspiring and supporting others and remaining a motivated team player.
