About the role

To classify inpatient episodes of care using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) and The Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) according to the Australian Coding Standards and Queensland Health requirements.

Assist in the maintenance, development and continued quality assessment of the clinical record content and the clinical record process.

About you

This successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Clinical coding – abstract and verify relevant information in the clinical record; assign accurate ICD-10-AM codes and perform DRG grouping according to the Australian Coding Standards, State Coding Authority and legislative guidelines within designated timeframes at both Caboolture and Kilcoy Hospitals.
  • May assist the Senior Health Information Manager – Service Line with the end of month data extraction for Kilcoy Inpatient data.
  • Maintain high level current knowledge of coding practices and standards, state and federal regulations pertaining to clinical classification and related computer applications.
  • As part of the coding process, complete Queensland Cancer Registry notifications and collect/flag clinical indicator and audit data
  • Utilise the 3M Web Codefinder software, relevant patient information systems and related pathology and associated databases to assist in verification and allocation of codes.
  • Actively participate in the coding audit process
  • Monitor and collect coding activity data.
  • Collect information utilising databases and systems, as required.
