About you: 

You are a qualified Clinical Nurse confident to lead with integrity and act as an advocate for nursing in a broad context and across disciplines using positive role modelling and adherence to corporate values. You are competent to deliver a high-quality service with the primary focus on achievement of organisational goals for the good of others and excel in the application of clinical problem solving and effective coordination of consumer care at an advanced level.

Your opportunity: 

The Clinical Nurse is required to deliver direct nursing care at an advanced level, to people requiring mental health interventions, within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service. The Adult and Older Persons Stream provides mental health intake/triage, assessment and treatment to consumers aged 18 years and over living within the Cairns area.

You will be responsible for delivering best-practice evidence-based clinical services, including assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention, and evaluation, to consumers of the Cairns and Hinterland HHS Mental Health, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Service. You will provide professional and clinical leadership, in partnership with professional and operational managers. You will use clinical knowledge, skills, and advocacy to contribute to and support professional standards and integrated service delivery. You may be required to work across other clinical teams within MHATODS to assist in meeting patient care needs, managing leave cover and supporting service delivery.

Your role: 

  • Using a biopsychosocial model, conduct mental health assessments, and assist consumers and families/ supports to develop a comprehensive individual recovery plan and facilitate the effective delivery, undertake discipline specific assessments and interventions within well-established clinical protocols.
  • Work with families and client's communities to promote recovery and community inclusion, coordinate/facilitate access to generic supports, services, opportunities, and resources necessary to meet the consumer's identified needs and goals.
  • Apply professional judgement to a complex caseload, adapting routine clinical practice based on valid and reliable evidence.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical practices, procedures, and protocols that support the continuum of care.
  • Work with families and communities to promote recovery and community inclusion and to access generic supports, opportunities, and resources.
