The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit are seeking a Project Officer (First Nations Cancer Care Survivorship Model Project) to join them. In this role you will be required to manage and support the community engagement, development of a model of care, and coordinate establishment of Cancer Care services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About us: The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers a large geographic area with a diverse and growing population. The Health Service provides a wide range of primary care, acute and specialist services.
The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.
About your opportunity:
The broad objective of the model is to increase access to optimal care pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, carers and their families. Design of the model will be achieved through interpretation and communication of qualitative data covering lived experience, families, communities, and partners input to co-develop a localised response.
About your role:
- Develop, implement, and manage a community engagement strategy approach across Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations including consultation and co-design logistical planning, feedback loops, active participation, and analysis and reporting processes.
- Provide expert and timely advice on complex and sensitive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues to the Project Lead, Project Manager and Executive Director, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, as appropriate.
- Actively participate in relevant project governance meetings and planning activities and effectively advocate for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families, and communities.
- Represent the project, unit and CHHHS, as required, upholding the CHHHS values.
