An exciting opportunity currently exists for you to join the Medical Assessment Unit as a Ward Administration and Patient Option Liaison Officer (POLO). In this role you will be required to respond to enquiries and provide information and assistance to staff, patients and visitors to facilitate effective service delivery within a hospital setting.

About us: The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers a large geographic area with a diverse and growing population. The Health Service provides a wide range of primary care, acute and specialist services.
The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.
About your role:
- As the primary contact on the ward respond to general reception enquiries by answering all incoming telephone calls, accurate transfer of messages and information to support patients and staff.
- Prioritise workload effectively and perform duties responsibly in the absence of supervision.
- Complete all relevant paperwork to ensure recovery of funds including Guarantee of Payment for ineligible patients, National Hospital Claim Form, Identification of Pre-existing conditions and ensure their timely submission.
- Record information accurately in hospital information systems to ensure patients demographic including admission, discharge and transfer times, account class classification and billing data is correct, including relevant Insurer's details for all compensable claims; ensure a high level of HBCIS data integrity and the accurate completion of all relevant forms.
