The Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch (MHAOD) is leading the implementation of Better Care Together (BCT). BCT demonstrates a commitment to Queenslanders who experience mental illness, problematic alcohol and other drug use and suicidality. As the Principal Program Officer - Lived Experience, you will use both your own and other peoples lived/living experience of mental illness and/or substance use disorder and/or mental health crisis (including suicidality), MHAOD service use and recovery, coordinate and undertake a range of projects and associated strategic activities with a focus on MHAOD services to enable the successful achievement of the key priorities of Better Care Together. What you'll do

As the Principal Program Officer - Lived Experience, you will use both your own and other peoples lived/living experience of mental illness and/or substance use disorder and/or mental health crisis (including suicidality), MHAOD service use and recovery, coordinate and undertake a range of projects and associated strategic activities with a focus on MHAOD services to enable the successful achievement of the key priorities of Better Care Together. About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • A lived experience of mental illness and/or substance use disorder and/or mental health crisis, MHAOD service use and recovery.
  • Ability to contribute to and manage system-wide and/or state-wide projects that are time-critical and achieve expected deliverables across MHAOD digital healthcare with demonstrated knowledge of the frameworks and policies relevant to Lived Experience engagement to inform project delivery.
  • High level strategic, conceptual and analytical skills and capacity to develop reports, discussion papers and submissions.
  • High level negotiation, consultation, facilitation and verbal communication skills, including experience in cultivating productive working relationships and partnerships across a range of internal and external stakeholders including people with a lived experience of MHAOD issues and their family/carers/support persons.
  • Strong understanding or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of digital health transformation and the MHAOD service system including the complex interrelationships within the government, non-government and private sectors.

It is a mandatory requirement of this position that the employee has a lived experience of mental illness and/or substance use disorder and/or mental health crisis, MHAOD service use and recovery to inform policy and project development.
