What you'll do
As the Principal Policy and Project Officer within Mental Health Alcahol & Other Drugs Branch (MHAOD), you will undertake a lead role in the analysis, development, implementation and evaluation of statutory policies to ensure the proper and effective operation of the Mental Health Act 2016 and the protection of consumer rights and the rights of victims. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide expert advice on complex sensitive and time critical matters in relation to the Mental Health Act 2016 and other legislation or system-wide policies, procedures and issues that impact on the rights and interests of consumers and victims.
- Analyse, develop, implement and evaluate statutory policy relating to the Mental Health Act 2016, including legislative reform and statutory policies of the Chief Psychiatrist.
- Coordinate lived experience engagement, participation and co-design within the Chief Psychiatrist policy development portfolio.
- Lead and manage complex projects and activities of significant scope and strategic importance within the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist in line with Queensland Health project management methodologies to ensure the delivery of timely and quality project outcomes.
- Actively contribute to the development of education and information resources required to ensure the proper and effective administration of the Mental Health Act 2016.

About you
We are searching for someone who demonstrates:
- Expert knowledge of the interpretation and requirements of the Mental Health Act 2016 and associated policy or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
- Substantial knowledge of national and state mental health policy and mental health service provision issues.
- High level project management skills including the ability to manage and evaluate projects, utilise relevant systems and effectively integrate related activities to achieve project deliverables and outcomes.
- High level interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to consult, negotiate and manage stakeholder relationships.
