The role 

Provide advanced specialist nursing knowledge, skills and leadership to assist the Clinical Governance Team to coordinate quality and safety and clinical governance activities to enable the timely and effective delivery of state-wide initiatives to improve consumer outcomes and quality of care in mental health alcohol and other drugs services. This includes contributing to the implementation of Better Care Together – A plan for Queensland's state-funded mental health alcohol and other drugs services to 2027.

Key responsibilities:

  • Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing/midwifery practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
  • Accountable for provision of professional advice regarding safe clinical practice in mental health alcohol and other drugs services, for example restrictive practices, medication safety, alcohol and drug nursing, clinical service delivery for consumers with mental health and substance use disorders. 
  • Participate in innovation and change to develop responses to address emerging service needs in relation to the mental health, alcohol, or other drugs nursing.

About you

We are searching for someone who:

  • Demonstrated advanced specialist knowledge, experience, and clinical skill in mental health and/or alcohol and other drugs nursing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mental health alcohol and other drugs service system, including the complex interrelationships within the government, non-government and private sectors, and relevant policy, legislation and clinical practice issues relating to the nursing care, and health and wellbeing, of people living with mental illness, substance use disorders and suicidality.
  • Demonstrated high-level analytical, policy and data interpretation and evaluation skills including the ability to integrate multiple related activities to achieve deliverables and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of a quality and risk management framework and/or coordination of quality improvement projects to improve quality of care and work environment. 
  • High level negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, and effective written communication skills, including ability to compile reports, briefings, project documentation, discussion papers and submissions.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and reasoning, advanced problem-solving skills, and expert clinical judgement. 
  • Knowledge of national and state strategic directions, standards, guiding frameworks, legislation and safety priorities in mental health alcohol and other drugs service delivery and suicide prevention.   
  • Experience in contributing to the application and evaluation of contemporary human resource management practices, material, and financial resource management for the multidisciplinary environment. 

Mandatory qualifications, registrations, and other requirements

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Possession of a relevant post graduate qualification is highly desirable.
  • The position offers flexible working arrangements.
  • Travel within Queensland and inter-state may be required occasionally as part of this position.
  • It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16).
