About the Role:

The Educational Leadership team, within Education Futures Institute, Capability Branch is responsible for delivering four flagship programs including Middle Leaders, Aspiring Principals, Beginning Principals and Experienced Principals.

The Principal Education Officer plays a key role in:

  • Consultation, co-design and facilitation of cohesive approaches to capability development for educational leaders aligned with professional standards and organisational priorities
  • Leading implementation of research-based quality-assured educational leadership development initiatives
  • Supporting engagement, partnerships and collaboration with school, regional and system leaders, key internal and external partners and stakeholders
  • Contributing to educational leadership across a variety of sectors including primary, secondary, special, outdoor and environment education centres and alternate educational settings.

Two (2) Principal Education Officer (EOSD) positions are available from Term 2, 2024 until the end of Term 2, 2026 within the Educational Leadership team.

The ideal applicant is someone who:

  • Understands the vision and strategic directions of the Department of Education
  • Has a track record of developing leadership capability opportunities through enhanced professional knowledge, practice and engagement
  • Have applied knowledge of the Departments School performance planning, monitoring, reviewing and reporting and experience in contributing to school improvement
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for teachers and principals as a framework to support school leadership professional learning.

It is a mandatory requirement of this role that the successful candidate holds qualifications, teacher registration, contemporary knowledge and school based-experience in areas of curriculum, teaching and learning or school management issues for completion of the responsibilities of the non-teaching role. Mandatory Requirements: 

  • You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments. 
  • Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 7.4 of the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019.
