As a Senior Occupational Therapist (Clinical), you will be responsible for leading and conducting specialised projects and building the capability of Occupational Therapists across the state. You will provide expert guidance in collaboration with other behavioural experts in evidence-based practices to enhance student engagement. Travel is required to be able to deliver face to face services to school and regional staff. Base location is Central Office, Brisbane with flexible work arrangements available.

Your Role:

As the Senior Occupational Therapist (Clinical), you will:

  • Support occupational therapists across the state to use clinical evidence-based occupational therapy to increase student engagement at school.
  • Develop evidence-based resources and tools to build capability across the department.
  • Provide project planning and support to assist with the development and implementation of department strategic initiatives within Student Support, Behaviour.
  • Provide high level strategic advice to senior officers of the department and other key stakeholders on issues relevant to the specific accountabilities of the role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify the needs of senior and departmental occupational therapists and provide evidence-based training, coaching and resources to ensure best practice in service delivery.
  • Lead and conduct specialised projects and innovative research activities, relating to the delivery and continuous improvement of occupational therapy services within schools.
  • Collaborate with occupational therapists and other professional groups and stakeholders in developing and promoting the occupational therapy role within a multi-tiered system of support.
  • Implement evaluation and monitoring processes which measure the impact of strategic initiatives to inform current and future agendas.
  • Foster a challenging, equitable, ethical and safe work environment that encourages, professional growth and continuous improvement.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Possession of a degree in occupational therapy from a recognised tertiary institution, or other equivalent formal qualifications which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Department of Education or delegate, are acceptable and registration with the Occupational Therapists Board of Queensland.
  • Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
  • In accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000, registered health practitioners working within their professional capacity must hold valid registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency at all times during their employment for the purpose of satisfying the exemption requirements of the Act.
