Strategy and Performance branch is seeking an experienced officer to lead the analysis tasks within the Analysis and National Data Policy (ANDP) team as a Principal Statistical Officer (AO7).
This opportunity is for a 12-month duration, unless otherwise determined.

About the Department:

About the Role:

The work of the analysis team is to convey meaningful findings and knowledge that provide insight for decisions. Through targeted quantitative investigation of educational data the team produce conclusions and products to support stakeholders.

Responsibilities Include:

The focus of the Principal Statistical Officer role is to:

  • Apply statistical, data modelling and quantitative examination techniques to investigate relationships and produce purposeful conclusions.
  • Create clear, re-producible analytical reports with appropriate technical language and visualisations.
  • Have strong technical capabilities in both scripting analysis and data manipulation.
  • Translate client questions and requirements into analytical direction; and communicate findings in a meaningful way.
  • Construct new measures related to concepts of interest through multidimensional analysis and machine learning.
  • Collaborate with fellow team members on best techniques for both quantitative and qualitative aspects of analytic tasks.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience implementing Machine Learning processes (i.e. modelling, classification and dimensional reduction).
  • Knowledge of contemporary data science techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to autonomously navigate complex quantitative investigations
