About the Department:

The Department of Education is dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community and schools we support by treating everyone with respect and dignity. This starts with recruitment and selection. The methods of assessing suitability in the recruitment process may vary. This includes making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process and employee lifecycle.

About the Role:

This newly created AO7 permanent position is a rare opportunity to lead a high-performing sub-team and take stewardship of several critical Power BI dashboards supporting executive decision-making and project settlements.

Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Finance, the successful applicant will lead a team of 3, manage the monthly capital project settlement process, and take ownership of 5-6 custom-built Power BI dashboards (e.g., FTE analytics, CWIP tracking). These tools require monthly updates, ongoing maintenance, and enhancements aligned to cost centre changes and financial year transitions.

You will also prepare submissions and reports for senior executives, liaise with QAO on audit matters, develop and document financial procedures, and support data-informed decision-making across ISD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the project settlement process across capital programs.
  • Oversee the ongoing maintenance, updates, and improvements of Power BI dashboards.
  • Provide strategic and operational support on audit and financial compliance issues.
  • Draft executive-level submissions, reports, and briefings.
  • Document procedures and standard operating processes to ensure business continuity.
  • Lead, mentor and manage team performance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships with regional stakeholders and internal clients.
  • Analyse data and communicate insights clearly to support better decision-making.
  • Manage difficult conversations and underperformance in a constructive manner.

About You:

We're seeking a people-focused finance professional with:

  • Demonstrated experience in project settlements, financial reporting or capital works finance.
  • Strong understanding of Power BI or a demonstrated ability to manage data visualisation tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting submissions and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven leadership skills, including team development and performance management.
  • Confidence working across varied stakeholder groups including QAO, regional staff, and executive leaders.
  • A solutions-focused mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities and navigate change.

Why Join Us?

  • Unique AO7 leadership role with visibility across the department.
  • Work with a team recognised for innovation in financial reporting and analytics.
  • Permanent position with a focus on professional development and influence.
  • Based in Brisbane CBD with flexible work arrangements available.

Interested? To Apply:
