Why this Role?
As the Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Assurance) within the Organisational Safety and Wellbeing Unit, you will lead the charge in redefining how we approach health, safety, and wellbeing (HSW) assurance. This role goes beyond traditional audits, blending them with innovative, contemporary strategies to create a dynamic and impactful assurance program. You'll conduct HSW audits and reviews, not just to assess compliance with legislation and policies, but to drive forward-thinking solutions that elevate our HSW standards across the department.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead transformative HSW audits and reviews that go beyond compliance, using innovative methods to assess and elevate the department's adherence to legislation, directives, policies, procedures, and industry standards.
- Empower schools with actionable insights and forward-thinking recommendations, driving continuous improvement in the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) Management System.
- Advance the development of findings management tools, enhancing our ability to monitor and optimise the HSW Assurance Program.
- Write reports that not only summarise findings but also inspire action, prioritising key areas for improvement and ensuring agreed remedial actions are implemented effectively.
- Collaborate with and mentor regional health and safety consultants, offering expert advice and fostering a culture of excellence in HSW practices across the state.

- Be a strong communicator with excellent time management skills.
- Have experience in health and safety.
- Be proactive in driving continuous improvement and innovation in HSW practices.
- Lead with curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning, constantly seeking out new knowledge and innovative ways to improve practices.
- Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.

Mandatory requirements:
- Willingness to obtain, or already in possession of, a relevant qualification in quality or safety auditing (e.g., ISO 45001 Lead Auditor).
- This position has high travel requirements throughout the school term and must be willing to travel.
- Willingness to obtain, or already in possession of, a valid Blue Card (Working with Children).
