About the Role:

As the Principal Regulatory Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing authoritative recommendations, advice and information in accordance with the principles of good administrative decision making and best practice regulation. You will also be proactive and support regulatory practice reforms and initiatives that achieve strategic objectives and activities under the relevant legislative frameworks.

This role is a regulatory role and therefore whilst an education background is useful, it is not essential for this role. We are looking for regulatory skills and/or legal experience.

The Principal Regulatory Officer reports to the Manager/s, Accreditation, Registration Services (International, Non-State and Home Education), Early Childhood, Regulation and Communication Division.

Responsibilities Include:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactively contribute and provide expert advice for the development and application of procedures to review, assess and prepare recommendations to the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board (NSSAB) on applications for accreditation and eligibility for government funding of proposed non-state schools, as well as changes to the accreditation and eligibility for government funding of existing schools.
  • Contribute to the development, management and application of procedures to review, assess and prepare recommendations to NSSAB on accreditation and eligibility for government funding and on unaccredited places.
  • Coordinate and oversee the non-state schools demonstration of compliance program, including the analysis and assessment of plans and reports, the preparation of recommendations and advice to NSSAB and correspond with schools on compliance outcomes.
  • Coordinate and oversee the non-state school accreditation assessment program and the unaccredited places program, including the engagement and deployment of authorised persons, and conduct training and briefing sessions and act as an authoritative point of reference for stakeholders.
  • Prepare and respond to correspondence between NSSAB and applicants and other parties as part of the accreditation, funding eligibility and compliance processes.
  • Conduct high level research, analysis, interpretation and review of non-state schools legislation and other impacting issues in order to provide advice, briefings or prepare correspondence for NSSAB, the Minister and senior management.
  • Provide high level support to the management and leadership of the accreditation and government funding eligibility team and the branch.
