About the Department

The Department of Education plays a central role in shaping the future of Queensland by delivering inclusive, high-quality education from early childhood through to adulthood. With a vision of equity and excellence, the department empowers every learner to reach their potential through responsive services, impactful policy, and community partnerships. Guided by a commitment to human rights and public value, the department supports strong starts for children, lifelong learning, and a capable, future-focused workforce.

About the Role

As Executive Director, Recruitment and Mobility, you will lead one of the largest recruitment and workforce mobility functions in Queensland, with strategic oversight of the Department's end-to-end attraction, recruitment and resourcing systems.

You will be responsible for the leadership of a portfolio comprising six Directors and a workforce of approximately 130 FTE. Your remit spans enterprise-scale recruitment, capability-matching, digital transformation and system-level workforce planning — ensuring that every school and region across Queensland has access to the right people, in the right place, at the right time.

With accountability for over $100 million in workforce delivery, this is a role of scale, strategy and service. You will lead a customer-centric transformation agenda that connects recruitment, mobility and pathways into a seamless, integrated and high-performing model. Reporting to the Assistant Director-General, School Operations, you will also provide strategic counsel and evidence-based advice to senior executive and Ministerial stakeholders on the design and implementation of best-practice recruitment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Department's enterprise-scale recruitment and mobility strategy, aligned to future workforce needs and public sector priorities
  • Oversee the delivery of high-volume recruitment activity across Queensland, ensuring operational efficiency, service excellence and consistent outcomes
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, processes and performance, embedding digital solutions, automation and metrics-based decision making
  • Champion a seamless, system-level approach to attraction, placement and mobility, underpinned by strong stakeholder engagement
  • Provide expert, high-trust advice to the Department's senior executive and Ministerial offices
  • Build the strategic capability of the function and promote a culture of excellence, customer service and continuous improvement across the Recruitment and Mobility Branch

About You

You are a senior people and culture executive with a track record of leading workforce reform in large, complex environments. You will bring with you deep expertise in strategic recruitment, organisational mobility, capability planning and change leadership across the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors.

You thrive in fast-paced, highly visible settings and are known for delivering results through clear direction, strong partnerships and outstanding execution. You combine service design with operational excellence and understand how to create lasting public value through people, performance and purpose.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Proven success in leading large recruitment, mobility or people strategy portfolios
  • A record of achievement in driving transformation and delivering results in complex organisations
  • Sophisticated stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence at executive and Ministerial levels
  • A collaborative and empowering leadership style that drives performance and culture uplift
