About the Department of Education:
The Department of Education is driven by a bold vision of equity and excellence for every Queensland learner. They are committed to delivering responsive services that empower children, students, and communities to thrive, and they are looking for a senior leader who can shape the future of their workforce and organisation.
Why this Role?
As Deputy Director-General, Corporate and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services, you will hold one of the most influential leadership positions in the Department. This is not simply a role of operational oversight; it is an opportunity to redefine how their corporate and people functions enable the delivery of world-class education outcomes. With responsibility for strategic people leadership, finance, legal, audit, and First Nations policy and program delivery, you will guide the alignment of resources, culture, and systems to drive meaningful outcomes across Queensland.
At its core, this position is about capability, inclusion, and performance at scale. You will shape and deliver workforce strategies that ensure the Department continues to attract, develop and retain outstanding people, while cultivating a culture that fosters resilience, wellbeing, innovation, and excellence. With accountability for the department's industrial relations environment, you will lead reform strategies and complex enterprise bargaining processes, ensuring outcomes that position the workforce for the future. You will bring both courage and diplomacy to your leadership, inspiring confidence while navigating the complexities of a large, diverse, and dynamic system.
This role also carries a deep responsibility for embedding equity and cultural understanding into every decision. You will lead policy and program delivery that responds to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, working alongside communities, schools, and other government agencies to design solutions that are inclusive, place-based, and impactful. Through this work, you will ensure that the Department not only reflects but actively promotes Queensland's rich cultural diversity, building trust and shared purpose with stakeholders at every level.
As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic advice on matters of governance, accountability, and risk, while driving forward a program of transformation that positions the Department for long-term success. The decisions you make and the culture you build will shape the conditions in which principals, teachers, and staff across the state can perform at their best, ultimately supporting every child to realise their full potential.
This is an opportunity for a proven leader to step into a role of exceptional scope and significance, where your decisions will shape the direction of one of Queensland's largest and most vital public institutions. By aligning strategy with purpose, and people with outcomes, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring every child across Queensland has the opportunity to thrive.
