About the Department of Education

The Department of Education is committed to every student achieving and realising their full potential - supported by capable, confident people and responsive systems to drive better outcomes.

Our physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists (therapists) play a critical role in supporting schools to identify and address barriers so that students can safely attend and participate at school.

Flexible service delivery is central to ensuring equitable access to therapy services through telepractice, drive-in drive-out, fly-in fly-out, hybrid models, or other remote/virtual formats. Flexible service delivery is one of the tools therapists use to help schools make reasonable adjustments and implement inclusive teaching strategies, ensuring students across Queensland receive the right support at the right time, no matter where they live.

Why this Role?

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the integration of flexible service delivery (FSD) into everyday clinical practice, supporting schools and therapists to adopt innovative and sustainable approaches to support equitable service delivery within their local clinical caseloads as well as cross-regional supports across Queensland.

The position can be geographically located anywhere within Queensland, subject to local base location availability. There may be opportunities to travel to support services for schools and therapists. Clinical caseload profession-specific supervision and line management will be linked to the Coorparoo Education Precinct, with strategic and project oversight provided by the Manager, Therapies role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Utilise flexible service delivery within a whole-school approach (multi-tiered system of supports) and evidence-based contemporary therapy frameworks to assist schools in identifying and making reasonable adjustments and implementing inclusive teaching strategies aligned with school and student goals.
  • Co-design, build, and deliver capability development and supporting systems, processes, and resources to embed flexible service delivery as part of everyday clinical practice for schools and therapists.
  • Facilitate the professional learning and wellbeing of therapists providing flexible services across the state by establishing virtual networks that connect professionals, providing opportunities for peer support, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration networks with relevant schools, regional supervisory therapists, and regional leadership teams to facilitate knowledge and resource sharing of specific or specialised clinical areas of telepractice service delivery.
  • Provide professional advice relating to telepractice services to the Director, Therapies and Nursing, schools, and other stakeholders on policies, systems, and practices related to the delivery and continuous improvement of SLP, OT, and PT services within schools.

The Perfect Fit!

We are looking for a strategic thinker and skilled collaborator who thrives in multidisciplinary environments and is passionate about creating systemic change. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Expertise in the delivery of flexible services within a school-based clinical caseload.
  • Demonstrated experience in building capability to support the uptake of flexible service delivery by local schools and/or other therapists.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing timelines.
  • High-level communication and networking skills to engage with stakeholders across professions and regions.

Interested? To Apply:

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
  • Attach a 2-page response providing examples about how your achievements and capabilities align with the responsibilities outlined in this role (outlined above)

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
