The Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant provides an opportunity for preservice teachers who are studying an accredited initial teacher education program to experience teaching in a Queensland state school.

Eligibility
If you're a final year preservice teacher and will undertake your final minimum consecutive 15-day placement in a Queensland state school in Semester 1 2026 (27 January to 26 June), you'll be provided with a one-off grant of up to $5,000* to assist with placement-related expenses.
*Please keep receipts and seek financial advice regarding potential implications for tax/income/benefits. If you are a current employee of the department, your grant will be taxed.
Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant
- Final placements do not include lead in days, additional time outside of the placement to complete the GTPA, and Integrated Service-Learning modules.
- You are not eligible to apply for the department's professional experience grants if your placement will be undertaken in a non-state school or private school.
- If you're an international student who currently resides in Australia and has permission under a Commonwealth Law to study in Australia, you are eligible to apply for this grant. Evidence of a valid visa and passport is to be submitted with your online application.
Other grants
In addition, if you undertake your final minimum consecutive 15-day placement in a regional, rural or remote Queensland state school, you may also be eligible for an additional grant of up to $5,000 (dependant on the location and length of the placement) through the: Regional Professional Experience Grant or Beyond the Range Professional Experience Grant
How to apply
Step 1. Organise your placement
- Select a state school for your final placement ensuring it meets the eligibility criteria (above)
- Organise the placement with the university
- Ensure all required documents are ready before applying
Step 2. Apply for the grant
- Once your placement is confirmed in Sonia Online or InPlace:
- Click the ‘Apply Online' button below (create an account if needed).
- Please refer to the document checklist (PDF) for detailed information. In the ‘upload resume or other documents' section, attach the following:
- Current unofficial academic transcript
- Confirmation of enrolment for your final semester of study
- Evidence of a valid blue card (working with children check)
- Confirmation of final placement from your higher education institution (e.g. InPlace or Sonia Online)
Step 3. Complete all the questions in the online questionnaire
International students must also upload a copy of their passport and a valid visa
Important information
- Do not submit your application until all required documentation is ready
- Applications missing essential documents cannot proceed to verification and will remain pending until complete, which may result in significant delays
- Incomplete applications or applications submitted less than 6 weeks before the placement start date may result receiving the grant while on placement
Selection process
You'll be advised of the outcome within 10 weeks of submitting your grant application (please allow longer during peak times). This may include a request for further information or acceptance of an offer from you. Please remember to regularly check your emails including the bin/junk/spam/trash folders for updates
Conditions of the grant: Please read the conditions of the grant in the documents list before applying
Payment of the grant: Payment can take up to 4 weeks and is initiated upon receipt of the relevant documents. Payment will be provided in a lump sum via EFT or with your fortnightly pay if you're an employee of the department
You are required to notify the department of any changes to the approved placement particulars. Please keep the receipts for placement-related expenses and seek financial advice (i.e., an advisor, ATO and/or Centrelink) regarding potential implications to income and/or benefits received/to be paid. If you're an employee of the Department of Education during your placement, the grant will be provided to you with your fortnightly pay and will be taxed as per the ATO requirements.
