The Department of Education (DoE) is seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Advisor) to provide best practice advice to departmental nurses enabling safe participation and access for students with health support needs.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Advisor) will develop training packages and resources for use by departmental nurses to improve the State schools registered nurse's education and service delivery.

This permanent position is based in Brisbane and requires regular attendance into the DoE Education offices and at Queensland Children's Hospital, Brisbane.

Flexible work options will be considered in accordance with the DoE's Flexible work arrangements procedure.

Your Opportunity:

The Clinical Nurses Consultant (Advisor) plays a pivotal role in supporting our State schools nurses to create a safe supportive environment for students with health needs.

Using advanced communication, critical thinking and consultation skills, this role provides tailored support to our departmental nurses, breaking down barriers to enhance wellbeing and bridging the gap between health care and education.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Advisor) reports to the Statewide Clinical Manager Nursing, Schools and Student Support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain and update training packages, documentation/forms, communications and web-based nursing resources related to student health and nursing on departmental websites.
  • Conduct literature and research reviews that inform nursing practice in schools.
  • Identify and co-ordinate professional development opportunities for departmental registered nurses in collaboration with the nursing governance group
  • Provide best practice advice and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based resources for use by nurses relevant to the educational context.
  • Support departmental nurses in the management of projects, collating data and implementing changes statewide that improve the quality of nursing services to schools.
  • Represent the department on relevant committees, associations and interdisciplinary teams as approved by the Statewide Clinical Manager Nursing.
