About the Role
We need an enthusiastic Manager with excellent stakeholder engagement skills and an ability to develop outputs with the end-user in mind to support the Branch in its work with schools, regional offices, and business areas across the department to understand their strategic priorities and help develop data and analytics products to support them.
If you're a strategic thinker and communicator, have a skill for engaging with others to understand what they do, a curiosity and drive to learn, and an appreciation for the power of data and analytics as an input for good decision-making, then this is the job for you! You do not need a background or technical skills in data or analytics for this role, just a willingness and ability to learn and lead conversations about delivering analytics to support strategy and front-line needs.
The successful candidate will be a key team member within the Department's data and analytics area, working in a team focused on linking business strategy and data to support our customers. You will have the opportunity to work on activities that will be directly supporting our schools through improved access to and use of data and analytics. Some key pieces of work over the next 12-months will be undertaking extensive engagement with schools and regional offices to understand their needs, identifying key measures for success and informing the next generation of BI products. This role has the potential to evolve over time as work in this space matures and emerges.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a key contributor to an emerging area of work within our department, that will only increase in prominence and potential in the years ahead.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead ongoing engagement with schools, regions and business areas across the department to understand their strategic priorities and improvement agendas, and how data and analytics can strategically and operationally support them in achieving successful outcomes.
- Lead consultation and collaborative design with schools, regions and business areas, and across data, analytics and reporting teams, to identify and develop solutions (e.g. Power BI) that meet customer needs
- Provide advice and support directly to Executive and Senior officers within the branch and across the department on a range of matters and in different forums, including meetings, briefings, working groups and governance bodies.
- Manage and coordinate a small team of public service and/or contractor/consultancy staff to deliver outputs.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of team tasks and activities, including forward work planning, task prioritisation and allocation, troubleshooting and solutions prototyping, risk identification and mitigation, and delivering on objectives within time and cost limitations.
