About the Department of Education:

Working for the Queensland Department of Education means joining an organisation that values its people and promotes leadership and innovation. Be part of an environment that respects professionalism and diversity, offers training and development opportunities and embraces flexible careers and work-life balance. Find out more about working with us.

About the Team:

The Grants Management and Funding team within the Early Childhood Division manages the end-to-end grants process, including Service Agreements, financial performance reporting and payments to funded organisations. The Kindy Funding team supports quarterly funding for more than 2,200 kindergarten providers, enabling more than 64,000 children to access Free Kindy in Queensland. Funding is administered through the Department's new grants system, EdGrants.

About the Role:

Our team is approachable, collaborative and generous with knowledge. People are expected to take responsibility for their work, ask for help early and support each other when priorities shift. The work is detailed and fast-moving, and the team values practical solutions, respectful communication and a positive working environment.

The role offers exposure to a large public funding program, complex grants administration and continuous improvement work. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to deepen their grants and financial expertise, build capability in EdGrants and develop leadership through meaningful operational responsibility.

The role includes a mix of recurring grants administration, complex problem-solving and improvement work. It will suit someone who enjoys detailed operational work, follows matters through and wants to become a dependable source of knowledge for the team. The Business Support Officer works closely with the Senior Program Officer and contributes to day-to-day coordination when required.

Responsibilities Include:

It would be highly desirable to have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience administering grants, funding, finance, contracts or another complex program, including assessing data and documentation against established requirements.
  • Strong analytical judgement, with the ability to identify discrepancies and risks, investigate the available evidence and recommend a practical course of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise detailed, high-volume work, manage competing deadlines and follow matters through to an accurate outcome.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex requirements and manage sensitive or difficult enquiries professionally.
  • A collaborative approach, with experience supporting colleagues, improving the quality or consistency of work and contributing to practical process improvements.
  • Strong digital and data capability, particularly in Microsoft Excel, and confidence learning unfamiliar systems. Prior EdGrants experience is not expected because it is a new departmental grants system.

Interested? To Apply:

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history);
  • A written statement of no more than 2 pages explaining why you are suited to the role. Using one or two examples, show how you have analysed complex information, delivered accurate work while managing competing priorities, and contributed to effective team outcomes.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
