An opportunity exists for an aspiring applicant to work as a Senior Guidance Officer in the Rockhampton area on a 5-week contract from 26 May 2025 to 27 June 2025.

The position is based in the Rockhampton Regional Office.

The successful applicant will work with a team of Senior Guidance Officers, both locally and regionally.

About the Role

Applicants are required to be experienced in psychometric assessments, case management processes, and knowledgeable on departmental policies and procedures that relate directly to guidance duties. Good verbal and written communication are essential.

As the Senior Guidance Officer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and maintain professional development for guidance and counselling skills.
  • Provide direct guidance services to students in consultation with Principals.
  • Work closely with Principals and school-based guidance officers to ensure effective guidance and counselling services are delivered to students.
  • Support and coordinate the provision of guidance services to schools in collaboration with Principals.
  • Develop and implement a system for technical and clinical supervision with Principals to ensure guidance services meet needs, focusing on psychoeducational practices, personal, career, course counselling, and behaviour management interventions.
  • Participate in regional Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) teams and lead the development of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary networks to provide holistic support for the complex educational, personal, and vocational needs of students and the community.
  • Design and implement training, induction, and supervisory programs for Guidance Officers.

To be considered, applicants need to have the mandatory qualifications to be eligible to work as a Guidance Officer in the QLD education system and have current or recent experience in the Guidance Officer or Senior Guidance Officer role.
