Blackwater State High School are seeking applications for a skilled and passionate educator to join the school community as Deputy Principal. This is a temporary, flexible full-time position for Semester 2, 2025, unless otherwise determined.
The successful applicant will play a vital role in delivering the
strategic vision of the school and improving the educational outcomes of students. The Deputy Principal has a major influence on developing the quality of teaching and learning and nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.

About Blackwater State High School
Blackwater State High School is situated in Blackwater, the Coal Capital of Queensland on the southern coalfields of the Central Highlands. Blackwater State High School serves students in Years 7 to 12, who come from varies social, cultural and economic backgrounds and we provide initiatives designed to cater for the needs of all students.
About the Role
As a Leader within our school, it is an expectation that you will have high level strategic leadership skills, uphold and model our School Values of Respect, Responsibility, Effort and Safety and contribute to the Vision of Blackwater SHS.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the Principal to lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students in the senior school (Years 7 - 12) including managing behaviours, attendance and well-being of these students.
- Line management of staff including Heads of Department
- Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Provide management and engagement strategies including induction activities of new arrivals, and advise on specific academic, social and emotional needs of new arrivals
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies and programs with other organisations, local businesses and not for profit organisations.
- Liaise with external agencies (for example, indigenous support agencies) to support new arrivals and their families through integrating them into the new environment, and incorporating the holistic needs of new students including academic, social and emotional.
