St Lawrence State School is seeking expressions of interest for a dedicated and enthusiastic Principal to join its team for a short-term appointment. Located 155 km south of Mackay, this small Kindergarten to Year 6 school offers a safe and supportive learning environment
where every student is encouraged to strive for success. The school delivers a challenging and engaging curriculum that incorporates the unique talents of staff and volunteer community members in areas such as music, art, sport, and woodcraft.
This six-week opportunity will
run from 3 November to 12 December 2025, providing an ideal chance to lead a close-knit school community and make a meaningful impact in a rural education setting.

St Lawrence State School is a small school with a big heart, where every child is known, valued and supported. Located between Rockhampton and Mackay, we deliver quality education from Kindergarten to Year 6 in a caring, inclusive environment. About the Role
As the Principal, you will be responsible for delivering the department's vision by setting clear goals and ensuring alignment across all aspects of the school. Your leadership will focus on improving student educational outcomes through evidence-based strategies and data-informed decision-making. You will oversee the development and implementation of high-quality teaching and learning practices, supporting staff with professional development and performance management. Building and maintaining strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community will be essential to fostering a positive and collaborative school environment. Your role will be pivotal in creating a culture of excellence, equity, and continuous improvement.
Your Responsibilities
As the Principal, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Uphold the principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
