Mackay Northern Beaches State High School seeks a focused and dynamic Head of Department - Health and Physical Education to join a committed team dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes and pathways for all students. This opportunity will suit an educator who is a collaborative team member, passionate about delivering high quality HPE teaching and learning opportunities and demonstrating strong curriculum capability.

The successful applicant will also lead the development of a range of sporting opportunities that support student growth and whole school sporting achievement. Building positive relationships with students, staff and stakeholders, while effectively leading the HPE faculty and contributing to the school vision. This is a temporary full-time position commencing 13 July 2026 until 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About Us:

Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is located 10km from the centre of Mackay in the growing Northern Beaches area of Mackay. The school opened in January 2013 and boasts modern facilities with the very latest state-of-the-art technology embedded across the curriculum. Mackay Northern Beaches SHS has a strong house culture and has Positive Behaviour for learning (PBL) embedded in the ways of working across the school.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Lead the school department to develop and commit to a shared educational vision focused on delivering high-quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Promote an inclusive and high-expectations culture by embedding socially just practices and setting high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Support continuous improvement by actively engaging in lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Build strong partnerships with students, parents, government agencies and community groups to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Provide strategic and effective departmental leadership by understanding relevant legislation and policies and managing human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources to achieve departmental goals.
