Blackwater State High School is seeking a strategic and capable leader to join the leadership team as Head of Department - Teaching and Learning.

This temporary position is available from 13 July to 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

This role offers the opportunity to lead key improvement priorities, strengthen staff capability and support student success in a collaborative regional secondary school environment.

About the Role

As Head of Department - Teaching and Learning, you will lead the Year 8 cohort and provide line management for the English and Humanities faculties.

  • The role focuses on building staff capability, particularly supporting teachers in their early career years, and strengthening consistent, high-quality teaching practice.
  • You will oversee case management of students and promote trauma-informed approaches that support engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
  • Success in the role will require the ability to work independently, lead your areas with confidence and contribute as an active member of the broader leadership team.
