The Clinical Nurse provides nursing services that support students with health needs to safely access and participate in school. The role develops and maintains Individual and Emergency Health Plans, provides health-related training to school staff, supports health requirements in school activities and works with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to support student health and educational outcomes.

There are 2 permanent part-time at 0.7 FTE (53.2 hours per fortnight) positions, based at either Victoria Park State School’s Specialist Support Hub in Mackay or Glenmore State School’s Special Education Program in Rockhampton North. A current AHPRA registration as a Registered General Nurse and a C class driver's licence are mandatory requirements.

The State Schools Nursing Service provides clinical assistance to build school staff's capacity to safely support students with health needs to attend and participate at school and realise their full potential. The position requires the provision of health assessment, health plan development, relevant training, and ongoing support of school staff. The position is based in the Mackay and Rockhamptons areas, although further opportunities may become available across Central Qld Region.

State schools' clinical nurses play a pivotal role in connecting schools with health specialists to create a safe supportive environment for students with health needs. Using advanced critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, they provide tailored services to primary, secondary and special schools breaking down barriers to enhance wellbeing and bridging the gap between health care and education.

2 Positions avaliable.

As the Clinical Nurse, you will:

• Deliver a quality nursing service responsive to student and school needs.
• Provide nursing services that build the capability of school staff to safely support students with health needs, enabling their access and participation in all aspects of schooling on the same basis as their peers who do not have health support needs.

The Clinical Nurse reports to the Clinical Nurse Consultants.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Form strategic partnerships with schools, health professionals and families as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Build school staff health support confidence through in-service education and training
• Develop individual and emergency health plans to support students in education settings
• Consult stakeholders to enhance professional decision making and nursing practices
• Maintain and build safe, quality, effective nursing professional networks
• Form partnerships with other health professionals to improve collaborative practice
• Analyse policies, procedures, legislation, codes and standards to continuously improve service delivery
• Provide High level consultation and ensure students, parents/carers, and staff are part of the decision making at every stage
• Actively participate in professional development and reflective practice across a multi-disciplinary sector that values your contribution
