As the Principal Lawyer, you will work on allocated legal requests collaboratively with clients and collegiately with other lawyers (including briefing of external lawyers), within client agreed time frames.

What you'll do

  • Communicate effectively, clearly and succinctly with a diverse client group, in a variety of settings, with legal accuracy and a practical, fit for purpose, customer focus.
  • Prioritise workload in accordance with client agreed timeframes and overall Legal Branch objectives, recognising that legal tasks may need to be completed urgently.
  • Engage in thought leadership and training for other members of the Legal Branch, HHSs and clients, including to share expertise and to update developments in law.
  • Participate in, and maintain a proactive approach to, self-development, including:
    • achievement of CPD points (including the minimum required for maintaining a practising certificate with the Queensland Law Society); and
    • Queensland Health's performance management and development framework and any feedback processes.

About you

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree and admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister, solicitor or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
  • Minimum 5 years post admission experience, primarily in construction, infrastructure, and property law, which includes experience in:
    • Project structuring and procurement, including joint ventures.
    • Front-end: Draft and negotiate construction contracts, including design & construct, construct-only, project management contracts, subcontracts, payment claims, payment schedules, operation & maintenance agreements, and professional service agreements.
    • Back-end: live project support to address issues as they arise, risk management and dispute avoidance, and dispute resolution process.
    • Property Transactions.
