In this strategic role, you will manage complex HR casework and provide expert guidance on employment and industrial relations matters. You'll partner with leaders across the department to ensure compliance, fairness, and best practice, supporting informed decisions that drive organisational excellence.
What you'll do
- Provide expert and high-quality employee relations and industrial relations advice (both written and verbal) on a wide range of highly complex matters to Department of Health leaders and management including, but not limited, interpretation of legislation, industrial instruments, policies, systems, and practices.
- Effectively manage and develop tactical and evidence-based advice and prepare submissions, correspondence, and briefing notes for senior officer approval on highly complex employee relations and industrial relations casework. Key focus areas for casework include but are not limited to, complex grievances requiring a specialist level of support, internal reviews, employee suspensions, investigations, and discipline.
- Demonstrate professional leadership through active participation in peer and case review mechanisms, and actively coach line managers and share information across HR Advisory Services in order to foster an environment of continuous professional learning and increased capability development.
- Identify and respond to new and emerging employee relations and industrial relations issues and provide specialised and extensive advice on any complexities and longer-term implications for Department of Health clients as required.
About you
We are searching for someone with:
- Expert skills and knowledge and comprehensive understanding of employment and industrial relations legislation, policies, and procedures within a large, complex public sector organisation.
- Demonstrated experience and success in the autonomous and responsive handling of complex employee relations and industrial relations matters in a large and complex operating environment.
- Record of achievement in providing (verbal and written) high-level advisory and support services to senior stakeholders on employee relations and industrial relations matters including legislative frameworks, policy issues and developments, trends and emerging issues.
- High developed written and oral communication, interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills including demonstrated ability to develop and maintain constructive and productive professional relationships and networks, adeptly manage expectations, and navigate complex organisational dynamics.
- Proven ability to meet timeframes and competing deadlines, solve a range of high level and sensitive employee relations and industrial relations problems, be solutions focussed and intrinsically motivated.
