This role will provide advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of The Department of Health.

To work effectively as a part of a multidiscipline, continuous shift scientific team to ensure service continuity to the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS) in a 24/7 shift environment.  

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated expertise and ability to apply multidisciplinary scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Microbiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles/procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner without supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of a Laboratory Information System such as AUSLAB.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and with members of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.
  • Awareness of procedures policies and regulations which impact on the position such as the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-discrimination.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree or equivalent qualification in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognised university or teriary institution.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification
  • Whilst this position currently participates in a continuous shift roster, there is a requirement to work a combination of day, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts within each fortnight.
  • The candidate will be required to undertake frequent manual handling, bending and lifting.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
