Clinical Assistant Microbiology

Pathology Queensland is looking for a Clinical Assistant Microbiology to join their team at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba. In this role you will be responsible for processing various clinical microbiology, molecular and serology specimen types as instructed, data entry support and clerical tasks. You will also be responsible for the performance of a range of non-technical laboratory tasks including glassware and cleaning and maintenance duties.

What you'll do

  • Participate in the operational duties including sample preparation and processing to facilitate SARS-CoV-2, and other respiratory viruses.
  • Provide support and assistance in the specimen reception and setup area under the direction of the rostered Health Practitioner and the Chief Scientist. 
  • Work with integrity, complying with expected ethical and behavioural standards, respecting patient confidentiality and the importance of patient results.
  • Participate in shift, weekend and after hours work if required, in accordance with the award.
  • Actively participate in quality or service improvement activities. 

About you

We are searching for someone who has: 

  • The ability to perform a diverse range of tasks in the Microbiology Specimen Reception area to a consistently high standard in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Demonstrated operational knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge in relation to specimen processing and preparation within the Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology Pathology Queensland laboratory
  • Demonstrated word processing skills, and computer data input and retrieval skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team independently and at times without direct supervision.
  • Be proficient in the use of laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, cytospin, staining machine).
