What you'll do
- Apply broad scientific knowledge, skills and experience in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Clinical Support Queensland.
- Provide scientific advice and provision of results to Cairns Hospital and external clients relating to Haematology and Transfusion in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
- Deliver high level scientific knowledge, skills, experience and professional services by undertaking routine and complex pathology testing and related duties, while following the well-established accredited protocols and standards of the Laboratory.
- Participate and contribute to the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities to enable the laboratory to achieve NATA/RCPA accreditation and ISO certification
- Train and provide scientific education and supervision for less experienced Laboratory staff, or undergraduate placement students, in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation and certification.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- At least a tertiary degree qualification in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
- Knowledge of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine testing and its role in clinical medicine.
- Knowledge, skills and expertise in analytical methods relevant to the pathology laboratory.
- Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in problem solving and innovative solutions.
- Proven ability to participate in a team of professional staff to ensure the delivery of a high-quality testing service.
- Continuously enhances communication skills to build and maintain professional relationships in the workplace.
