We are looking for Clinical Assistants to join our team to provide client focussed specimen reception, sample processing, DNA extraction, DNA and specimen storage and genetic referral services to the various clients of the Genomics Department.

What you'll do

  • Perform operational duties using standard operating procedures. This may include such duties as specimen reception, data entry, cross checking patient and sample identity, primary specimen preparation, aliquot samples, quality control, equipment maintenance, specimen storage, and genetic referrals.
  • Perform routine and general laboratory duties as required including storage and disposal of specimens, and maintenance of consumable stock levels.
  • Develop effective professional relationships with clients and colleagues, liaise with and understand the needs of clients, providing advice and assistance in a professional, friendly and helpful manner.
  • Work both independently and as a team member, cooperating and communicating effectively with those in the immediate workplace and the wider work environment.
  • Comply with organisational policies and procedures and assist the Genomics Department comply with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards, including meeting NATA / ISO / TGA accreditation / certification requirements.

About you

We are searching for someone with:

  • Demonstrated laboratory-based knowledge and skills, or ability to acquire, of the operational requirements of a molecular pathology facility including specimen reception, nucleic acid extraction, data entry and the correct procedures for handling biological specimens.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member under the direction of more senior practitioners, to produce an effective work output and work quality.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, client focus and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures; and relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards, including NATA / ISO / TGA accreditation / certification requirements.
