Clinical Assistant (Phlebotomist)

Pathology Queensland are looking for Clinical Assistants to join their team in Ipswich/Ripley. In this role you will perform blood collection primarily on inpatients within the Ripley Satellite Health Service to support a new service opening in November 2025. However, successful staff will also be required to rotate through Ipswich Hospital and perform blood collection on inpatients and outpatients of all ages, contributing to a high quality, cost-effective Pathology Specimen Collection Service, and to assist in other laboratory operations as required.

What you'll do
- Maintain a neat, tidy, and respectful personal presentation always including the wearing of the provided Pathology Queensland corporate uniform.
- Maintain above-average attendance, punctuality, and impeccable behaviour in the workplace.
- Perform blood collection effectively and efficiently as part of a skilled team of Phlebotomists rostered to cover agreed operating hours within either Ripley Satellite Health Service and Ipswich Hospital sites.
- Whilst within Ripley Satellite Heath Service, perform pre-analytical processes consistently and accurately, by maintaining competency in some areas of Central Specimen Reception including but not limited to specimen processing and packing of specimens.
- Ensure that all collection practices and processes comply with Pathology Queensland, NATA, and ISO requirements.
- Effectively prioritise workloads to assist the laboratory to meet Pathology Queensland turn-around-time key performance targets.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- The ability to participate in an established roster which may cover a range of shifts within the hours of 0600-1630 weekdays and 0600-1100 on weekends and public holidays.
- The ability to work at either Ripley Satellite Health Service and Ipswich Hospital sites as required.
- Demonstrated experience in or the ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision. (required for both sites- Ripley Satellite Health Service and Ipswich Hospital)
- Demonstrated experience in or the ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen reception (specimen processing and packing) including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision. (Required for Ripley Satellite Health Service site)
- Ability to successfully perform phlebotomy on neonates, paediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in a busy public hospital environment.
- Prioritise inpatient and outpatient workloads to meet Turn Around Times, averaging 7 or more collections per hour on each shift.
