This position covers participates in a roster which covers out-of-hours shifts mainly late afternoon/evening with weekend day shifts.
What you'll do
- Specimen reception and processing of specimens received in the Microbiology Laboratory
- Performance of laboratory investigations and established laboratory tests as required in the Microbiology Laboratory
- Operation of automated and other laboratory equipment
- Equipment monitoring, cleaning and maintenance
- Participation in quality management and quality assurance activities including internal and external quality control programs.
- Train, advise and assist junior staff as required.
- Miscellaneous tasks of a technical or scientific nature.
About you
We are searching for someone with:
- Demonstrated knowledge appropriate to the position with emphasis on sound ability in techniques relevant to clinical microbiology.
- Ability to follow instructions, and work conscientiously and accurately with minimum local supervision, with the ability to work alone.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work alone and co-operatively in a team environment.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and an understanding of the basis of laboratory Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs.
- Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
