What you'll do 

  • Apply well developed multi-specialty scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Health Support Queensland.
  • Provide scientific advice to Queensland Children's Hospital and external clients relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Urine Microscopy in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
  • Apply multi-specialty scientific knowledge, skills, and experience to the Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microscopy sections in the Queensland Children's Hospital Laboratory.
  • Provide clinical practice supervision or guidance as required to less-experienced practitioners, work experience students and provide direction to assistant and support staff.
  • Assist the laboratory services team meet or exceed service delivery KPIs for the unit.

About you

We are searching for someone with:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply well developed multi-specialty scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Urine/CSF Microscopy and high throughput PCR.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific advice to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients on a range of issues pertaining to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Urine/CSF Microscopy and high throughput PCR.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services commensurate with level of experience in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles / procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.
